Perseus (10/14/09)

January 2, 2010

perseus, boy, if you break my heart
i’ll come crashing through those waves by the end of the week
tired, exhausted your miracle stands
shaven and saved like a tidal embrace

you’re forgotten but when i hold up that sword,
when i stare through the rivulets of glass on the sea,
and let that reflection come back, unaided
a dying word calls you, only you

my private soldier, my last confidant
spread across islands from knee to knee
bled, your head hangs over me,
no sword nor stone undoing the fear of daylight

so come to me, and bring your invisible charms,
help me come back to the world unbridled
ready for goddesses and kings, beasts and men
a solid promise for no prophecies fulfilled.
