Sweet Overtones (4/12/10)

July 6, 2010

sweet overtones
come down so hard my hull should break,
a cochlear intervention must be staged
to prevent the balance from unwinding
into an inner core so long that, spread out like a snail’s tongue
it travels miles away from home on only
the hope that the same timbres will
swallow shadows like they do inside
the gentle chamber,

no dream stands this without following joy to the most extreme, ferocious mountaintops
with a cry bellowing out that overtakes all grass and moons

further from the ground than all skies,
stories come down like this just to find
what they are looking for,

who are you and what is this
that no one knows what no one has known
before

that no one must know
anything like this

while you carry the most unknowable,
closed-clasped secret in your curved lips
with the impossible smile that shares the undeniable
only when kissed

and this is what
i mean
when i say what
when you say i love you
