Untitled (2/10/10)

July 6, 2010

if your image was malleable
in my memory
would i have sculpted you the same?

or would i carve lightly, touching the arc of your cheekbones,
digging new furrows to sleep in,

while my anguish wraps skin under your lips,
bulging scars parallel to unseen faults,

bringing the angles of your eyes and lips to meet
in a perspective point drawn near your face,

and carelessly, smear it all
just so,
to overhaul the features you once prized

but if i replaced that fragile mass of shapes,
where would i untangle my new fears?

you are always rendered perfectly,
lit just right,
memorably

i choose to remember you
and not to change
